About Matthew Straughton
I founded Fides Accountancy Ltd after spending 10 years working within an international finance team, supporting multi-entity operations across Europe. My career progressed from transactional finance roles to Senior Staff Accountant, giving me first-hand insight into how businesses operate behind the scenes — not just at year-end.
During that time, I worked across operational finance, statutory reporting and multi-entity management, and led internal improvement initiatives to modernise systems and streamline processes within the finance function. Alongside my core responsibilities, I mentored colleagues and helped build a more structured and efficient finance environment.
While working full time, I completed my AAT qualification and went on to achieve ACCA Chartered status, combining practical commercial experience with strong technical expertise.
What shaped me most during those 10 years wasn’t just the qualifications or projects — it was seeing how financial clarity impacts real businesses. I understand the pressures of reporting deadlines, cash flow and performance, and how important it is for business owners to feel confident in their numbers.
That experience now underpins how I work with clients.
